Hello Kids, Let’s begin the fun of Mathematics once again & learn about a very interesting concept, which we often apply, in our day-to-day life... ‘Inverse Operations’
Now, what do you understand when we say inverse?
Inverse means opposite
Eg. High - low
Hot - cold etc.
Let’s see how we use this in Mathematics. The opposite of addition is subtraction and opposite of subtraction is addition. On that note, let’s see a simple example
5 + 2 =7
It means, by adding 5 and 2 we get the answer 7. Now we will use the inverse operation of the same equation by subtracting 2 from the answer…
i.e. 7 - 2 = 5
We can also write,
7 - 5 = 2
Let's see another example:
2 + 3 = 5
Now, we can rewrite it as
5 - 3 = 2
This is Inverse operation
Similarly, Opposite of multiplication is division and opposite of division is multiplication…
E.g. 2 x 3 = 6
Now think ‘Inverse’ again, what do you divide to make it 2? It’s simple, we need to replace the multiply sign with its opposite sign, which is a division sign, along with the output value 6, which will look like this:
6 ÷ 3 = 2
One more benefit of inverse operation is that you can use addition to check subtraction and vice versa.
For instance,
If 4 + 2 = 6
then
6 - 2 = 4
or
6 - 4 = 2
So, in this way, we got all the numbers that we used in the equation like 6, 4 and 2.. Thus we can be sure about the correct answer that is 6, in this case. Similarly we can cross check the problems of Multiplication and Division with the help of Inverse Operations.
Hope you understood all about inverse operations and do let us know more such examples, in the comments section. Don’t forget to like and share this video & subscribe to Hungama kids

Addition and Subtraction by Jack Hartmann introduces the operations of addition and subtraction.
Addition is adding 2 or more number and getting a greater number or sum. Subtraction is taking away to get the difference. Jack Hartmann introduces simple addition and subtraction word problems to show each operation. There is a special rule at the end for adding and subtracting zero to a number in this Addition and Subtraction video by Jack Hartmann. Addition and subtraction word problems.
Addition and Subtraction Lyrics
When you add you put together
When you add you get the sum
It's taking 2 or more numbers and getting a greater one
Adding is called addition
When you subtract you take away
When you subtract you get the difference
It's taking one number from another and always getting less
Subtracting is called subtraction
Let's try an adding problem I think you can solve
If you have 3 pencils, 3
And you add 2 more pencils 2
How many pencils do you have all together?
3 + 2 = 5
Let's try another adding problem, I think you can get it
If you have 2 dogs 2
And you add 2 more dogs 2
How many dogs do you have all together
1,2,3,4
2 + 2= 4
Let's try a subtracting problem I think you can solve
If you have 4 balls 4
And you subtract 2 balls 2
How many balls do you have left?
1,2
4 - 2 = 2
Let's try another subtracting problem
Think, you can do it
If you have 6 apples 6
And you subtract 3 apples 3
How many apples do you have left?
1,2,3
6 - 3 = 3
Now listen to this cool rule about number 0
When you add or subtract 0 the number doesn't change
When you add or subtract 0 the number stays the same
When you add you put together
When you add you get the sum
It's taking 2 or more numbers and getting a greater one
Adding is called addition
When you subtract you take away
When you subtract you get the difference
It's taking one number from another and always getting less
Subtracting is called subtraction

Join Edwin on this exciting expedition where he learns that mathematical statements using numbers and symbols are called number sentences, numeric forms of what often begin as addition and subtraction word problems.
He learns to write number sentences in the traditional way most of us learn about number sentences... hangin' out with a troop of wild monkeys, of course!
Thank you for watching our Addition and Subtraction Number Sentences Song.

Q. Where did you guys come from?
A. Numberock is a project that I, Mr. Hehn, began as a 5th Grade math teacher of 7 years. It came together after years of experimenting with my lessons trying to figure out the best way to help my students retain the math concepts they were learning.
Q. Does Numberock drive real results in the classroom?
A. I knew I found the secret sauce when not only were my students retaining the concepts longer, they were singing the songs outside of the classroom during recess and at home with their parents during dinnertime. The songs were so catchy, my students couldn't get the math songs out of their head!
During testing, I often found my students humming the melodies in order to jostle their memory of a rule or problem solving process. As we've all experienced, there is something about the power of music that allows us to retain information easier and for longer periods of time. Without getting into the finer details of multi-sensory learning and how it often helps the students who most need the help, the power of a catchy song is hard to deny.

This song aligns with the following common core standards:
1.OA.1
Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem
2.OA.1
Use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve one- and two-step word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem

In this lesson we will work on understanding the meaning of the equal sign, and determine if equations involving addition and subtraction are true or false. For more fun way to learn math visit www.boddlelearning.com.
