What is a virus? - Viruses for children - Science for Kids Teacherflix 8 Views • 2 years ago

Educational video for children to learn what viruses are and how they spread. Viruses are microorganisms that are not visible in plain sight; we'd need a microscope to see them. Did you know that viruses are not living organisms? This is because unlike cells, viruses cannot carry out the vital function of reproduction by themselves. In this video, children will discover what the structure of a virus is (capsid and genetic material) and also how viruses spread. Children will understand what vaccines are and what they are for, and they will look at some examples of diseases caused by viruses. This video is an excellent resource for elementary school, Grades 5 and 6, but it also helps the littles ones understand what microorganisms like the coronavirus are, and how they can avoid getting infected by having good hygiene habits like hand washing.

Phonology: Crash Course Linguistics #10
Phonology: Crash Course Linguistics #10 Teacherflix 5 Views • 2 years ago

All of the sounds or handshapes in a language can be pronounced differently depending on the context, but in different languages, these differences may be significant, or not. The study of these patterns and variations is known as phonology. In this episode of Crash Course Linguistics, we’ll learn all about phonology and the different phonological systems we see in different languages, and we’ll begin to retrain our brains in order to gain a better understanding and appreciation for phonological patterns.

Water & Solutions - for Dirty Laundry: Crash Course Chemistry #7
Water & Solutions - for Dirty Laundry: Crash Course Chemistry #7 Teacherflix 4 Views • 2 years ago

Dihydrogen monoxide (better known as water) is the key to nearly everything. It falls from the sky, makes up 60% of our bodies, and just about every chemical process related to life takes place with it or in it. Without it, none of the chemical reactions that keep us alive would happen - none of the reactions that sustain any life form on earth would happen - and the majority of inorganic chemical reactions that shape the surface of the earth would not happen either. Every one of us uses water for all kinds of chemistry every day - our body chemistry, our food chemistry, and our laundry chemistry all take place in water.

In today's Crash Course Chemistry, we use Hank's actual dirty laundry (ew) to learn about some of the properties of water that make it so special - its polarity and dielectric property; how electrolytes can be used to classify solutions; and we discover how to calculate a solution's molarity as well as how to dilute a solution using the dilution equation.

What are you waiting for? The digestive system and digestion
Hello friends, and welcome to a new Happy Learning video. Today we are going to learn about the digestive system and digestion.
So that our body can make the most of the food we eat, it must first transform it into a simpler substance called nutrients. These nutrients are then transported by our blood around our body to be used and converted into energy. This food transformation process is called digestion and is done by the digestive system.
The digestive system is a very long tube threw which food travels and is made up of the following parts:
The mouth; this is where the digestion journey begins. The teeth both chop and grin up the food we eat. Once it has been made into a ball, it is pushed down the food pipe, to the pharynx.
The pharynx is a cavity which shares the digestive system with the respiratory system. It is from the pharynx that the food goes to the esophagus.
The esophagus is a soft muscular tube that moves food further down to the stomach.
The stomach is a widening of the digestive tube. It creates a movement which allows food to mix with gastric fluids. Once this process has been done, it then travels to the small intestine.
The small intestine, is called small because of its width not its length. It's actually much longer than the large intestine, measuring up to 7 meters in length, almost as wide as a football goal from post to post. Well it is here, in the small intestine, were the food digestion journey ends. Now it is up to fluids processed by two glands, the liver and the pancreas, to finalize the transformation of food into nutrients.
Once the food is converted into nutrients, they then traverse the small intestines walls and filter into our blood where they are then made good use of, by all of our body´s cells. But what happens to all the food that our body doesn't need? All that, such a fiber, for example, is transferred to the large intestine.
The large intestine is a thick tube which accumulates substances which our organism cannot digest and is also where water from these substances is absorbed. These substances then form the fecal matter, or what we call poop, which comes out of the anus. Agghh, it sounds a little bit discussing but that's how our body works.
Anyway friends, I hope you found the digestion system and digestion as interesting as I did.
See you later, and don't forget to subscribe to Happy Learning.

------------
Hello Happy friends!
Are you ready to learn?

I’m Sarah, and today, we’re going to solve a very curious mathematical riddle.
But don’t think it’s going to be about adding, subtracting, multiplying or dividing.
No, no, maths isn’t just that!
We also use maths to develop our creativity, and solve problems that we come across every day.

I’m going to show you a little riddle called the ants crossing crossing a bridge, and we’re going to see how to solve it!

It’s nighttime, and four ants are being followed by a hungry anteater.
Suddenly, they come up to an old narrow bridge!
One of them, has a light on its head so they’re able to see, and she realises, that the bridge is so old, only two ants can cross at a time, so they will only be able to cross individually, or in pairs.
And they always need the light, because otherwise, they can’t see!

The anteater will take 17 minutes to get to where the ants are, to eat them all! What can our ant friends do to save themselves?

Let’s see, you’re the slowest, and you’re going to take 10 minutes to cross the bridge.
You’re going to take 5, you’ll take 2, and because I’m the fastest, I will take 1 minute.
And we only have one light!
And the anteater is going to take 17 minutes to get here, what shall we do?

These little ants need our help, let’s get our thinking caps on!
But if you need a little more time, pause the video.

Have you figured it out?
Let’s take a look!

If two ants go together, they will take the same time as the slowest ant.
So the best idea is that and 1 and 2 go together.
They’ve spent 2 minutes crossing.

Now, ant 1 will cross back with the light, and she will take another minute.
That means, in total they’ve taken 3 minutes.
Who should cross the bridge now?

Ant 1, will give the lamp to ant 5, and this one crosses the bridge with ant 10.
If we add these 10 minutes, to the 3 we had before, we’ve taken 13 minutes.

Now, the ant that goes back with the lamp is ant number 2, who takes 2 minutes.
So they’ve taken a total of 15 minutes, and the anteater is about to arrive!

So, the ants we’ve got left are the ones that take 1 and 2 minutes.
How long will they take?

Of course! it’s two minutes!
And if we add them to the 15 minutes we had before, we’ve reached a total of 17 minutes!

Yes! we’ve saved our little ants! And it’s all thanks to our maths!

The truth is, maths are so much fun, and so helpful!

Goodbye happy friends! See you next time!

I hope you’re always ready to learn!

Goodbye!
