In which John Green teaches you about the presidency of Andrew Jackson So how did a president with astoundingly bad fiscal policies end up on the $20 bill? That's a question we can't answer, but we can tell you how Jackson got to be president, and how he changed the country when he got the job. Jackson's election was more democratic than any previous presidential election. More people were able to vote, and they picked a doozie. Jackson was a well-known war hero, and he was elected over his longtime political enemy, John Quincy Adams. Once Jackson was in office, he did more to expand executive power than any of the previous occupants of the White House. He used armed troops to collect taxes, refused to enforce legislation and supreme court legislation, and hired and fired his staff based on support in elections. He was also the first president to regularly wield the presidential veto as a political tool. Was he a good president? Watch this video and draw your own conclusions.

Alkaline Earth Metals-- Alkaline earth metals are found in group 2 of the periodic table
They include beryllium (Be), magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), strontium (Sr), barium (Ba), and radium (Ra)
The alkaline earth metals share several common properties, they have
Low density
Silver and soft metals
Ductile and malleable
React with halogens and water
Alkaline earth metals are reactive, not as reactive to alkali metals, but still very reactive. This is because they all contain two electrons in their outer shell. Because they are reactive they are usually found in nature in compound form.

Strontium compounds are often added to fireworks displays for their red flame test color.
Calcium is used by our body for our teeth and bones.
Magnesium is used in antacid and barium is used in light bulbs.
So there are the group 2 alkaline earth metals. They each have two valence electrons.

This physics video tutorial provides a basic introduction into torque which is also known as moment of force. Torque is the product of force and lever arm also known as moment arm. The lever arm is the perpendicular distance between the axis of rotation and the line of action of the force. Torque is the rotational equivalent of force. Positive torque values produce counterclockwise rotation and negative torques produce clockwise rotation. This video contains plenty of examples and practice problems of torques as it relates to doors, seesaws, and shovels. It discusses how to calculate the mechanical advantage of simple machines like seesaws and shovels.

Algebra I on Khan Academy: Algebra is the language through which we describe patterns. Think of it as a shorthand, of sorts. As opposed to having to do something over and over again, algebra gives you a simple way to express that repetitive process. It's also seen as a "gatekeeper" subject. Once you achieve an understanding of algebra, the higher-level math subjects become accessible to you. Without it, it's impossible to move forward. It's used by people with lots of different jobs, like carpentry, engineering, and fashion design. In these tutorials, we'll cover a lot of ground. Some of the topics include linear equations, linear inequalities, linear functions, systems of equations, factoring expressions, quadratic expressions, exponents, functions, and ratios.

About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.

Physics on Khan Academy: Physics is the study of the basic principles that govern the physical world around us. We'll start by looking at motion itself. Then, we'll learn about forces, momentum, energy, and other concepts in lots of different physical situations. To get the most out of physics, you'll need a solid understanding of algebra and a basic understanding of trigonometry.
