What is a ribosome?

When you look at pictures of cells, you can see tiny dots on the ER and in the cytoplasm.

These dots are ribosomes, but why are they important to the cell?
Ribosomes are small protein factories found in cells.
They are located in the cytoplasm and on the rough ER.
Ribosomes look like small dots on the ER and in the cytoplasm.
Ribosomes are found in plant, animal, and bacterial cells.

How does a ribosome make a protein?
mRNA that has been created at the nucleus and travels to the ribosome.
tRNA travels to the mRNA and reads it in triplets called codons.
The tRNA has an amino acid on one end.
The tRNA reads the mRNA and strings the amino acids together in the correct order.

Why is protein important?
Protein is used for many functions in the cell.
Proteins are used as building blocks and structure suppor. Your skin, and tendons are made up of protein.
Some proteins help with digestion.
Proteins help with muscle contraction, and carry oxygen around the body.
These tiny organelles play a very important in helping organisms stay alive.

What happens in prophase?
Cell Division Crossword Puzzle
http://www.moomoomath.com/cell....-division-crossword-

Prophase is the first stage of mitosis.
During prophase, the chromosomes first begin to appear.
Next, the nuclear membrane begins to break down, and the centrioles produce mitotic spindle fibers.

Which animals belong in phylum Chordata?
Most people describe chordates as having a backbone.
Technically, all chordates have a notochord A notochord is a primitive beginning to the backbone.
In some chordates like the lamprey, the notochord remains there for life. In vertebrates, such as humans, and mammals a more complex backbone appears and only portions of the notochord remain.
Chordates also have a nerve chord.
There are many types of chordates but most can be classified as chordates who have jaws.
Most people are familiar with these chordates

Fish
Most also breathe with gills and have scales that cover their bodies
Fish are cold-blooded.
The cartilaginous fishes. Examples: sharks, rays.
The skeleton of the cartilaginous fish is out of a flexible bone- cartilage.
The bony fishes. Examples: perch, goldfish, trout.

Reptiles
Scaley skin
Reptiles produce shelled eggs or bear live young.
All species fertilize eggs internally.
All species of reptiles have at least one lung.

Amphibians
Have smooth slimy skin
Some species fertilize eggs externally, some internally.
Many can breathe through skins and have lungs

Mammals
Are endothermic.
Have hair on their bodies.
Produce milk to feed their babies.
Most produce offspring internally

Aves ( Birds)
Birds have Feathers.
All birds have wings, but not all birds fly.
Most birds have beaks or bills.
All birds lay eggs

The path of food through the digestive system.
Digestion starts at the mouth, travels down the esophagus, enters the stomach, passes through the small intestine, and then the colon. Along the way fats are broken down, sugars are converted, and important nutrients are absorbed by villi and transported by capillaries.

00:00 Introduction to the digestive system
00:30 Digestion begins in the mouth
1:07 Food travels to the stomach
1:31 Enzymes and Bile are added at the small intestine
2:39 Nutrients are absorbed in the small intestine

Tundra biome facts. In this video, enjoy pictures and video clips of this cold biome. The tundra can be divided into two types. The arctic tundra and the alpine tundra. The arctic tundra is found in the north near the poles and is very cold and treeless. The alpine tundra is found at the top of mountains and has a similar climate as the arctic tundra.
In North America, you will find the arctic tundra in Alaska and some cities would include Barrow Alaska, Aklavik, Fort McPherson, Inuvik, Iqaluit, Old Crow, Qausuittuq and Tuktoyaktuk. These cities are all on the northernmost frontier, in the Northwest Territories, the Nunavut provinces and the Yukon Territory. Each of these cities has very long winters and short summers.
The alpine tundra can be found in the rocky mountains, Alps, and Pyrenees mountains

Limiting Factors in an ecosystemAny biotic or abiotic factor that restricts the number or production of organisms is a limiting factor.

Take this ecosystem found in the fishbowl
The limiting factors would be the size of the bowl, amount of water, will limit the number of fish that can survive in the fishbowl

Limiting factors can be dependent limiting factors and independent factors

Dependent limiting factors depend on the number of organisms
For example, the amount of food available for each organism depends on the number of organisms
An independent limiting factors does not depend on the number of organisms.
For example, the amount of rainfall does not depend on the number of organisms

You also have

Density-Dependent Factors
A limiting factor that depends on population size is called a density-dependent limiting factor.

Density-dependent limiting factors include:
โ€ข competition
โ€ข predation
โ€ข parasitism
โ€ข disease

Here is a list of abiotic limiting factors
Sunlight
Climate
Temperature
Water
Space
Soil chemistry
Fire
Natural disasters

Biotic factors limiting factors
Number of plants
Number animals
Amount of competition
Number of decomposers
parasites
Disease causing agents
