After all, there is no time to reinvent the wheel during war. To desperately stay ahead, nations sometimes create whole departments of people to spy, infiltrate, and copy enemy advancements in technology. Perhaps even more absurd, being the first country to make progress in new technology seems to rarely balance the power favorably for long as every other country, enemy and ally alike, are soon sending spies and envoys to get their hands on it.

Teaching phonics for kids is easier with these instructional and fun videos from Kids Academy. Join the phonics superhero, Chris the Word Whiz, and learn more advanced phonics skills.
Join Chris and learn about word parts for kids. The word whiz carefully explains to students that if a word is divided into syllables, the words are easier to decode and read. Each syllable in a word has a vowel sound and the video explains the difference between words with open and closed syllables. Chris demonstrates a cool way to find out the number of syllables in a word by placing your hand under your chin. Say the word. Count how many times your chin moves down.
In another video, students learn about words with silent letters. Chris explains that some words donโt follow the phonics rules. Examples of these words include: knight, honest, climb and wrap. The word whiz superhero reads many examples of words with silent letters and quickly throws the words into โword jailโ for not following the rules! Chris asks students to read words on their own as well.
Comprehending new words is easier if students know about prefixes. In the video about prefixes for kids, students learn about the common prefixes: re, un, bi, and dis. Children learn what each prefix means and how adding a prefix to a word changes the meaning of the word.
In addition to prefixes, the videos teach suffixes for Grade 2 students. Chris the Word Whiz, explains that suffixes are words parts added to the end of a word. Kids learn the common suffixes ful, less, ly, able. Our superhero explains what each suffix means and what the meanings of words are that have these suffixes. The videos include instruction on how adding suffixes sometimes change a verb to a noun and that you can add a prefix and a suffix to a word.
Letters for kids isnโt just about learning the names of letters in the alphabet. Silent letters, prefixes, suffixes, and syllables are challenging phonics skills. Clear up confusion on these concepts with exciting videos and Chris the Word Whiz!

Hi! Iโm Laura, homeschooling mom to three. Iโm excited to share our homeschooling journey with you. We tend to follow a child led unit study approach to homeschooling. While I pull from many educational philosophies, if I had to pick one way to describe our homeschool, it would be Braveschooling (based on Julie Bogart's book "Brave Learner"). The thing about home education though, is that each family and life stage are so different. No two homeschools look the same. My hope is that by sharing my journey, I can offer support, encouragement, and inspiration to help you think outside the box to create a dynamic homeschool experience tailored to your family.
โTherefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.โ ~1Thessalonians 5:11

Do you know the difference between herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores? Do you know which one you are? In this video for kids, you will learn all about the three diets that animals (and even a few plants!) follow. You will also learn what exactly these three words mean.
One of the main characteristics that distinguishes the type of diet an animal will follow is the teeth. Herbivores only eat plants. These animals tend to have dull or no canine teeth and big, flat side and back teeth. They use their molars to crush and grind the plants they consume. Examples include sheep, cows, giraffes, rats, and grasshoppers. You could consider herbivores vegetarians!
Carnivores, on the other hand, only eat meat. They have long and sharp canine teeth next to their front teeth. They also have sharp cheek teeth called carnassials that help them cut up meat in their mouths. Carnivorous animals include lions, spiders, sharks, wolves, dragonflies, and the Venus fly-trap (which is actually a plant).
Finally, that leaves us with omnivores, which eat both plants and animals. Humans are omnivores because we consume both types of food. Omnivores have a combination of flat teeth and sharp teeth because they eat both plants and animals. Apart from humans, other omnivores include lizards, turtles, apes, catfish, and bears.
We hope you and your student(s) enjoyed learning about the diets of different animals! If you want to learn even more, head over to our website and download one of our many free lesson plans, full of activities, worksheets, and more!
