This is a “concern” that friends and family would bring up often when I told them I was homeschooling my children, before the pandemic. I’m really not sure where people get this idea from that school is the only place, or even the best place to socialize a child.

In short, our children are not only fine but thrive when it comes to interacting nicely with others.

Now some hard truth:

As a teacher, many of the schools I’ve taught in or visited are the last place I would want my child to be socialized. That even includes so called good schools in a blue rated school districts where Socialization looks like:

- Girls being teased for plump or skinny bodies, developing body image and confidence issues
- Sexual harassment and touching as early as kindergarten
- Dehumanization and degradation of children by adults
- Physical restraint and choking by adults
- Dark skinned boys being treated unfairly and undervalued by adults and children

So when people complain that my children won’t be socialized, it takes a lot for me not to roll my eyes. But I understand, this is the only type of socialization we in America, where all children have access to go to school, understand.

K2-18b is an exoplanet orbiting the red dwarf K2-18, located 124 light-years (38 pc) away from Earth.The planet, initially discovered through the Kepler space telescope, is about eight times the mass of Earth, and thus is classified as a super Earth. It has a 33-day orbit within the star's habitable zone.

Each of the graduates of Parkland High School in Allentown came on stage when their names were called and returned to their assigned seats... except for Tayler Michelle Gray. In which John Green teaches you about the Progressive Era in the United States. In the late 19th and early 20th century in America, there was a sense that things could be improved upon. A sense that reforms should be enacted. A sense that progress should be made. As a result, we got the Progressive Era, which has very little to do with automobile insurance, but a little to do with automobiles. All this overlapped with the Gilded Age and is a little confusing, but here we have it. Basically, people were trying to solve some of the social problems that came with the benefits of industrial capitalism. To oversimplify, there was a competition between the corporations' desire to keep wages low and workers' desire to have a decent life. Improving food safety, reducing child labor, and unions were all on the agenda in the Progressive Era. While progress was being made, and people were becoming freer, these gains were not equally distributed. Jim Crow laws were put in place in the south, and immigrant rights were restricted as well. So once again on Crash Course, things aren't so simple.

A shocking discovery out of a Baltimore City high school, where Project Baltimore has found hundreds of students are failing. It’s a school where a student who passed three classes in four years, ranks near the top half of his class with a 0.13 grade point average.

Tiffany France thought her son would receive his diploma this coming June. But after four years of high school, France just learned, her 17-year-old must start over. He’s been moved back to ninth grade.

“He's stressed and I am too. I told him I'm probably going to start crying. I don't know what to do for him,” France told Project Baltimore. “Why would he do three more years in school? He didn't fail, the school failed him. The school failed at their job. They failed. They failed, that's the problem here. They failed. They failed. He didn't deserve that.”
