X-linked inheritance involves traits found on the x chromosome.
Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes. Females inherit two x chromosomes and males inherit an x and y chromosome.
The x chromosome has many more genes than the y chromosome. As a result, you get what is called an x-link trait.
In this video, I show a Punnet square of an x-link chromosome and why males may inherit the trait more often than females.

the totality of genes, species, and ecosystems of a region
As biodiversity increases so do the health of the ecosystem increases.
Think of it as if you were running a business.
You want your business to be healthy and make money. Imagine you sell shirts. If you only sold a black shirt with a heart you are limited and if white shirts go out of style you are out of business. If you have a variety of shirts as fashion changes you are better able to adapt to these changes and continue to make money.
As biodiversity increases the ecosystem has a greater ability to adapt to changes.
Biodiversity is broken down into three types
Genetic diversity
Species diversity
Ecosystem diversity

In which John Green teaches you about the beginnings of the American Revolution in a video titled The Seven Years War. Confusing? Maybe. John argues that the Seven Years' War, which is often called the French and Indian War in the US, laid a lot of the groundwork for the Revolution. More confusing? Why does this war have two names? Why were the French and Indians fighting each other? The Seven Years' war was actually a global war that went on for nine years. I think I'm having trouble making this clear. Anyway, the part of this global war that happened in North America was the French and Indian War. The French and Indian tribes were the force opposing the British, so that's the name that stuck. Let's get away from this war, as it makes my head hurt. Other stuff was going on in the colonies in the 18th century that primed the people for revolution. One was the Great Awakening. A religious revival was sweeping the country, introducing new ideas about religion and how it should be practiced. At the same time, thinkers like John Locke were rethinking the relationship between rulers and the ruled. So in this highly charged atmosphere, you can just imagine what would happen if the crown started trying to exert more control over the colonies. The colonists would probably just rise up, right? We'll see what happens next week.

FILM DESCRIPTION:

Anthony Michael Hall and Ilan Mitchell-Smith play the wannabe hipster Gary and his nebbish weak-willed best friend, Wyatt, a pair of high-school geeks who are hapless with members of the opposite sex. Using Wyatt's computer, they create what they believe is the ideal woman. A lightning storm brings that woman to life, and she takes the form of Kelly Le Brock. Lisa sets about building their self-confidence, but trouble begins brewing when Wyatt's cruel, military-minded older brother, Chet (Bill Paxton), begins to realize that something is not as it should be. CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Elizabeth (Cameron Diaz) is frustrated when Amy (Lucy Punch) gets between her and Scott (Justin Timberlake).

FILM DESCRIPTION:
A booze-swilling, pot-smoking, hard-swearing seventh-grade teacher rallies to get out of the classroom for good by wrangling a rich substitute teacher into marriage in this comedy from director Jake Kasdan (Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story). Cynical teacher Elizabeth (Cameron Diaz) hates her job. She can't wait for the day she finds a man who makes enough cash to let her walk away from her life of middle-school misery, and when her fianc cancels their wedding plans, her frantic search intensifies. Just when it starts to look like Elizabeth will have to muscle her way through another semester of skull-crushing hangovers, however, handsome substitute Scott Delacorte (Justin Timberlake) shows up at school sporting a fancy wristwatch and the promise of a care-free future. But in order to earn her meal ticket, Elizabeth will have to out-cute perky fellow teacher Amy (Lucy Punch). And it won't be easy, because Scott is crushing on Amy hard. Now, if Elizabeth can just motivate her students to study so that she can win a state contest to earn enough cash for some new breast implants, perhaps she can finally find a means of diverting Scott's gaze. Meanwhile, much to Elizabeth's chagrin, wisecracking, self-effacing gym teacher Russell (Jason Segel) refuses to admit defeat despite being turned down for a date by his gold-digging colleague time and again.

Most people don't realize it, but the words that we use to teach a concept have a huge impact upon students learning. Math is an especially tricky area where teachers must be precise and use the right word or they could confuse their students.
Sarah Powell examines both the challenges of using proper mathematical language as well as strategies and examples to help teachers use precise and specific language to help students learn math.
This video is part of Project STAIR, an online resource for math teachers and parents who want to help their students learn.

Which beverage would you rather drink: milk, soda, water, or orange juice? Each one of these liquids tastes very different. Why? Because they all have different levels of chemicals called acids and bases. In this video for kids, you will learn why liquids, and even the foods you eat, taste a certain way.

Acids tend to be on the sour side. In fact, the more acidic something is, the more sour it will taste. Bases, on the other hand, taste bitter. The more basic (or alkaline) a substance, the more bitter it will be. Lemon juice is a great example of a very acidic liquid. Almond milk is a great example of a basic liquid.

When something is acidic, the molecules split apart and release hydrogen ions. Molecules of basic substances split apart and release hydroxide ions and reduce the number of hydrogen ions. A higher number of hydrogen ions yields a more acidic solution while a higher number of hydroxide ions yields a more basic or alkaline solution.

Examples of acids and bases are everywhere. Apart from the liquids we drink, acids are also found in car batteries, and bases are often found in household cleaning products. In addition, our bodies contain both acids and bases. The stomach has hydrochloric acid to help digest food and kill bad bacteria. The pancreas contains a base that helps with digestion as well.

You will also learn about the pH scale and about indicators. The pH scale measures the level of acidity or base, or number of hydrogen ions, in a specific substance. The scale goes from 0 to 14, with numbers between 0–7 indicating acids and between 7–14 indicating bases. Litmus paper is one of the most common indicators. When put in a solution, it will turn red to indicate an acid or blue to indicate a base.

We hope you and your student(s) enjoyed learning about these interesting chemicals! If you want to learn even more, head over to our website and download one of our many free lesson plans, full of activities, worksheets, and more!

So we've been talking about civil rights for the last few episodes now, and we're finally going to wrap this discussion up with the rather controversial topic of affirmative action. We'll explain what exactly affirmative action is, who it is for, and why it still exists. Now, affirmative action is a pretty problematic concept. So we'll get into the court's rationalization for it in the 70s as well as its fall from favor in more recent years. Now, people tend to have pretty strong, and varying opinions, about this stuff - so we'll start talking about how these opinions are informed next week when we start our discussion on politics.

The main function of the circulatory system is to carry, through the blood, the nutrients to the cells of our body. It is formed by the heart, arteries and veins and its proper functioning is essential for us to have good health. I have a curiosity Do you know how much all the artery and veins would measure together, put in single file? They would measure 97,000 kilometres, which would be equivalent to almost two and a half laps to Earth, it's incredible, right?

The heart has the main role in making sure that the blood travels around the body. With its one hundred thousand pulsations per day it ensures that blood circulates throughout our body allowing it to distribute oxygen and nutrients into our cells.

We are going to start a journey through the circulatory system so we can understand it much better.

The journey of blood begins in the heart. With the pulsations of the heart the blood comes out through one of the great highways of the circulatory system called the Aorta.

From that moment, the blood flows through our body through many veins. It reaches the neck, head and brain through one side. From there, the blood continues to flow into our arms then through the aorta, around the thorax and abdomen and finally reaching both of our legs.

During this trip, the blood is delivering oxygen and nutrients to the cells through the capillary veins.

As this trip is circular, that is to say it has no end, the blood starts the trip back to the heart to regain nutrients and oxygen.

Student pairs design, build, and test model vehicles capable of rolling down a ramp and then coasting freely as far as possible. The challenge is to make the vehicles entirely out of dry pasta using only adhesive (such as hot glue) to hold the components together. Creativity is encouraged and different types of pasta are provided to support different functions such as round pasta for wheels and sheet pasta for the chassis. Students become familiar with the concepts of gravitational potential energy, kinetic energy and rolling resistance. Teams follow the steps of the engineering design process as they design, test and redesign their small-sized vehicles, working within the project's material constraints. The winner of the competitive final event is the pasta car that travels the longest distance beyond the bottom of the ramp.

Today we’re going to talk about Bayes Theorem and Bayesian hypothesis testing. Bayesian methods like these are different from how we've been approaching statistics so far, because they allow us to update our beliefs as we gather new information - which is how we tend to think naturally about the world. And this can be a really powerful tool, since it allows us to incorporate both scientifically rigorous data AND our previous biases into our evolving opinions.

CORRECTION: At 2:09 the righthand side of the equation should not have P()'s, it should just be the raw numbers.
