Supernovae are the most powerful explosions in the universe, unleashing enough energy to outshine galaxies. We have no real metaphor for their power โ if the sun were to magically go supernova it would feel like you were being hit by the energy of a nuclear explosion, every second. For weeks.
While supernovae are the engines of creation, forging the elements that enable life, they also burn sterile whole regions of galaxies. So what would happen if one hit earth?

In which John Green teaches you about the Market Revolution. In the first half of the 19th century, the way people lived and worked in the United States changed drastically. At play was the classic (if anything in a 30-year-old nation can be called classic) American struggle between the Jeffersonian ideal of individuals sustaining themselves on small farms vs. the Hamiltonian vision of an economy based on manufacturing and trade. I'll give you one guess who won. Too late! It was Hamilton, which is why if you live in the United States, you probably live in a city and are unlikely to be a farmer. Please resist the urge to comment about this if you live in the country and/or are a farmer. Your anecdotal experience doesn't change the fact that most people live in cities. In the early 19th century, new technologies in transportation and communication helped remake the economic system of the country. Railroads and telegraphs changed the way people moved goods and information around. The long and short of it is, the Market Revolution meant that people now went somewhere to work rather than working at home. Often, that somewhere was a factory where they worked for an hourly wage rather than getting paid for the volume of goods they manufactured. This shift in the way people work has repercussions in our daily lives right down to today. Watch as John teaches you how the Market Revolution sowed the seeds of change in the way Americans thought about the roles of women, slavery, and labor rights. Also, check out high school John wearing his Academic Decathalon medals.

In which John Green teaches you about the Protestant Reformation. Prior to the Protestant Reformation, pretty much everyone in Europe was a Roman Catholic. Not to get all "great man," but Martin Luther changed all that. Martin Luther didn't like the corruption he saw in the church, especially the sale of indulgences, so he left the church and started his own. And it caught on! And it really did kind of change the world. The changes increased literacy and education, and some even say the Protestant Reformation was the beginning of Capitalism in Europe.

Markus Hohenwarter from the School of Education at Johannes Kepler University Linz talks in his speech about the free math app GeoGebra. GeoGebra was created by global community and was started over 15 years ago with a master's thesis that wanted to join math apps for geometry and algebra in one combined tool. Today, GeoGebra is a global community of teachers and students who have already shared more than 1 million interactive open educational resources on www.geogebra.org.
The lecture was recorded on June 25, 2018 at the OCCE.2018 in Linz/Austria.

Y bailan chachachรก y bailan agogo
bailan tango, twist y rock and roll,
Mambo, break dance, la salsa y la rumba
bailan todos menos Roco el hurรณn.
Bailan chachachรก y bailan agogo
bailan tango, twist y rock and roll,
Mambo, break dance, la salsa y la rumba
bailan todos menos Roco el hurรณn.
Roco estรก molesto no puede dormir
quieren que el baile llegue a su fin,
Pero el rinoceronte y el canguro
estรกn felices y no se quieren ir.
Y bailan chachachรก y bailan agogo
bailan tango, twist y rock and roll,
Mambo, break dance, la salsa y la rumba
bailan todos menos Roco el hurรณn.
Bailan chachachรก y bailan agogo
bailan tango, twist y rock and roll,
Mambo, break dance, la salsa y la rumba
bailan todos menos Roco el hurรณn.
Baila Roco baila Roco baila Roco baila
Baila Roco baila Roco baila Roco baila
Baila Roco baila Roco baila Roco baila
Baila Roco baila Roco baila Roco baila
Baila che, baila Harlem shake,
baila polka, swing y merengue tambiรฉn,
Luego baila che, baila Harlem shake,
baila polka, swing y merengue tambiรฉn.
Y bailan chachachรก y bailan agogo
bailan tango, twist y rock and roll,

A simple phosphorus cycle explanation
Phosphorus is not found in the atmosphere. It is important for the production of ATP, DNA, and membrane.
Phosphorus follows a biogeochemical cycle that ensures the earth always has phosphorus and phosphate.
Substances like phosphorus, carbon, and nitrogen move from living organisms to abiotic factors This cycling from living organism to abiotic factor is a biogeochemical cycle.

An unexplained phenomenon
Outbreaks of this so-called dancing mania involved groups of people dancing erratically and uncontrollably, sometimes in their hundreds or even thousands.
Like a disease, the mania would spread from town to town and even country to country as if it were contagious.
Historical records are sometimes very detailed about these outbreaks which affected men, women, and children dancing often until they collapsed from exhaustion or injuries.
