The twelve times table trick fast and easy to apply - and it will leave you able to multiply any number by twelve rapidly!
It is similar to an eleven times table trick we have looked at earlier - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HrHUUWtsbE
Just follow these simple rules - for the number being multiplied, double each number in turn and add its neighbour (to the right). Some carrying may be involved but it is easy to handle. This math trick will amaze you!
When you try these out for yourself, write the figures spaced apart, and as you go through answering the question place each part of the answer directly below the digit the answer was derived from. This will help you avoid errors when getting the answer.
In this particualr case of multiplication it is important because you need to easily be able to identify the 'number' and the 'neighbour'.
This method works for all multiplication of twelve. It is not meant as a substitute for knowing your times table, rather, it is meant to allow you to expand your mathematical capabilities and to recognise patterns. Dividing decimals is easy, just divide like usual - and work out the number of decimal places as follows:
The number of decimal places in the answer = number of decimal places in the item being divided - number of decimal places in the dividing number....
e.g. 123.963 (3) / 0.3 (1) = 413.21 (3 - 1 = 2) where decimal places are shown in brackets.
