Rounding to the nearest 100 | 3rd Grade | Kids Academy
Time for some math’s lesson. Math’s can be really fun if taught the right way. Make it interesting and easy for the kid, and they will love it.
Rounding off to the nearest number is a very basic lesson in the early standards. It requires a sound understanding of the concept and needs more and more practice to master the technique. So, let’s start with the easy tutorial to make rounding off a piece of cake.
Round off to nearest 100
If you want to round off a number to the nearest 100 you need to look at the number at the tens place to help you decide whether to round up or round down.
H T U
1 5 3
Since we are rounding off to the nearest 100 we will look at the number to the right of hundreds which is the tens.
Now 5 is the key number. If it 5 or greater you round up if it is less than 5 that is 4 or lower you round down. When you round to the nearest 100 the numbers in the tens and one's places become zero, so 153 when rounded off to the nearest 100 will become 200.
Similarly, 175 rounds off to 200, 871 to 900 and 963 to 1000.
So, this was simple, you look at the number to the right of hundreds place, which is the tens number, if it higher than 5 rounds up and change the tens and one’s number to zero. And that’s it the number has been rounded off to the nearest 100. These rounding lessons further become helpful in the common core math multiplication and common core math addition. Therefore these concepts must be cleared at this stage.

Learn to Play Chess - Getting out of Check | Kids Academy
Learning about light and shadows for kids is an intriguing concept. It improves their outlook on how transparent, translucent, and opaque objects differentiate from each other. One can always learn about these differences by watching science videos for kids to improve their understanding of the concept.
Light is a form of energy, and it comes as a wave and particle. All objects are likely to absorb or reflect the colors emitted by the light. It makes the objects appear differently based on the color that they reflect. On the other hand, shadows require an object and light source for its appearance. A shadow occurs when the light is stopped by an object. The shadows are likely to change its size depending on its position next to the light source.
The opaque objects block all light. The transparent object blocks a small section of the light. Also, when an object is responsible for blocking a few areas of the light but, allows the light get through—it is known as a translucent object.

US Local Government Departments | Water, Fire, Police, Sanitation Recreation & Transportation
If your kid is at that stage of his life when he should start learning about the government, what it does and what do the sectors in the government do then it is an undeniable fact that you first need to teach them about the different departments of the local government of the US.
For starters, the local government is divided into sectors and each sector is assigned a particular duty. For example, when we talk about the state and city governments, they are divided into different departments like the department of water, the department of fire, police, sanitation, recreation, and transportation.
Long story short, these departments take care of the basis on which a state or country runs.
Water Department: The water department is responsible for providing safe and clean water to drink, make food and bathe. Not only this, in fact, this department is also responsible to provide resources of water for emergency purposes like when there’s a fire somewhere.
Fire Department: The fire department is of course there to save people from fires and the destruction caused by it. For example, if a building is on fire, this department will be on alert.
Police: For controlling crime in a state and punishing thieves and looters etc, the police department is there to make sure that people are following the law.
Sanitation: This department is responsible for providing a healthy atmosphere for people. Keeping the roads clean, getting rid of all the debris and making sure that there’s little to no pollution around falls in their department.
Recreation Department: They take care of entertainment places like parks, beaches, and playgrounds, etc.
Transportation Department: They are the ones who look after the transportation systems of a state.
These are some of the major operating departments out there so make sure to teach your little one about all of these local government departments so that he knows how a state runs.

Welcome to Kids Academy! In this educational video for kids, we will read aloud the Peter Rabbit story for kids. Peter Rabbit is a fictional animal character in various children's stories by Beatrix Potter. He first appeared in The Tale of Peter Rabbit in 1902 and subsequently in five more books between 1904 and 1912. Spinoff merchandise includes dishes, wallpaper, and dolls. He appears as a character in several adaptations.
Peter Rabbit was named after a pet rabbit whom Beatrix Potter had as a child, and whom she called Peter Piper. The first Peter Rabbit story, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, was originally created in 1893 as a letter to Noel Moore, the five-year-old son of Potter's former governess, Annie Moore. The boy was ill and Potter wrote him a picture and a story letter to help him pass the time and to cheer him up. The letter included sketches illustrating the narrative.
Reading bedtime stories to kids is a very old and important ritual. It is not just to put the kids to sleep and curb their curiosities. These bedtime stories are actually the start of the learning process for your kids. Bedtime stories give both moral and educational lessons to the kids and they also teach them to read or get familiar with phonics if you read the stories with sounds and make them fun.
Due to the crucial importance of bedtime stories for kids, it is important to choose wisely what kind of story you want to tell your child. It should be easy, with a plot that their brains can comprehend. The words should be easy that the kids can learn.
The book should have visual illustrations and most importantly, the bedtime story for kids should have a sound moral lesson to help in their development and upbringing.
One such bedtime story for kids is The Tale of Peter Rabbit. It has been adapted from the works of Beatrix Potter and comes as a short story book with illustrations. This animated tale is about the naughty garden adventures of a rabbit named Peter.
The Tale of Peter Rabbit is about four rabbits namely,
Flopsy
Mopsy
Cotton Tail
Peter
Unlike his other siblings, who are well-behaved and contented, Peter is naughty and mischievous. This behavior puts him in trouble when he goes to investigate Mr. McGregor’s garden despite his mother’s warnings against it. Mr. McGregor chases him with a rack and Peter runs back home frightened and barely alive. His mother puts him to bed with a chamomile tree while his siblings enjoy eating blackberries with milk.
The Tale of Peter Rabbit teaches young kids to listen to their parents and learn to respect their wishes. It also has been made into a bedtime story movie.

This Halloween, children and those “young at heart” can enjoy a special Halloween song set to a familiar tune- the Hickory Dickory Dock Song!
Fun characters, including a ghost, mummy, vampire, and monster, enter a delightfully creepy house decorated with happy jack-o-lanterns. Each character enters the spooky house one at a time. The characters run up the clock and then back down and are often followed by some floating ghosts.
The video ends with the last character, a rather rotund elephant dressed playfully as a pirate, running up the clock and then there is a funny surprise conclusion!
Halloween for kids is one of the most enjoyable days of the year and this special Hickory Dickory Dock song will delight children but also reinforce basic educational concepts. Children can learn Halloween vocabularies such as ghost, vampire, mummy, monster, and pirate. Mathematical skills such as counting the number of spooky characters can be accomplished as well at identifying the mathematical terms such as clock face, hour hand, and minute hand.
Children can practice telling time to the hour as well. Children learn through repetition and this Halloween, Hickory Dickory Dock song’s predictable lyrics will have children singing in record time.
Children at home and in school settings are getting ready for Halloween 2020! Halloween songs can be used by parents and teachers alike to make this Halloween season festive and fun. Enrichment activities can include brainstorming other Halloween characters that could also go up the clock and singing extra verses to this special Hickory Dickory Dock song.
Extend mathematical learning by asking children what the clock would look like at 6:00, 7:00, 8:00 and 9:00 o’clock. Children could also draw their favorite Halloween character that was pictured in the video or create one of their own.
Halloween for kids is a fun and exciting time, but it also can be a time for learning and enrichment with the Hickory Dickory Dock song.

It's Kids Academy and welcome back to our channel! When comparing numbers, learners will examine and then assess whether a given number is greater than, less than or equal to another number. When students are comparing numbers correctly, they are able to make logical estimations, solve division problems more easily and develop number sense.
When children are efficient with counting to 100 and familiar with place value, then they can begin to compare 2-digit numbers. Students usually doing math in 1st grade are ready to be comparing numbers. Using base 10 counting blocks, students can show a given quantity.
For example, the number of twenty-five can be shown with the blocks as 2 tens and 5 ones. Likewise, number 43 can be shown as 4 tens and 3 ones. The student can easily see that number 43 is greater than 25. Now the child can assign the “greater than” math symbol to the problem.
Base 10 counting blocks are a great tool to use when comparing numbers for 1st grade, but other visual tools are effective when teaching this math skill.
The Kid’s Academy comparing numbers video is a great visual for instruction or reinforcement of this math concept. In the video, the student sees fun race cars zooming down a track. Each of the cars has 2 digit numbers on the side. The speaker in the video then compares the different numbers on the cars.
Students are also shown how to assign the “greater than” and “less than” math symbols correctly as well as reminded to look at the number in the tens place when first making the comparison. Furthermore, students are shown several racing cars and have ample opportunity to practice comparing 2-digit numbers.
Comparing numbers for 1st grade is fun with the use of the counters and engaging videos. After instruction students are ready to compare and describe quantities and use this knowledge in everyday life.

Word Parts: Prefix, Base Word, Suffixes | Kids Academy
Looking for something to teach your little one the concept of base words, suffixes, and prefixes? If yes then you are at the right place because we are going to tell you about the right way to do that and we will even give you some motivation because honestly, we know it’s hard to teach children the basics of English.
First of all, as a parent or a teacher, you need to stay calm and stay consistent with your efforts because the brain of a child is too young to understand and grab such concepts quickly.
They need more examples, more games and more interest in a subject to learn about it. So, stay focused and make sure to do the best you can to teach your child English.
For example, when it comes to base words and prefixes etc, what you can do is that you can start making your little one watch online videos. Yes, you read that right! There are several online Youtube lessons that you can opt for if you want to teach your child word parts, base word or in simpler words, prefixes or suffixes.
These Youtube videos will be useful because they’ve got some of the best graphics and the best audios in them that attract children and they become interested in the subject that’s being taught.
Not only this, in fact, but you can also even try story boxes and different games so that your little one can grab the concept of what you are trying to teach him/her. Just stay focused, don’t put too much pressure on that younger one's brain and we assure you that you will witness some great results in a short time.

Silent Letters - Phonics for Kids | Reading & Pronunciation | Kids Academy
Install now Kids Academy Talented & Gifted: https://smart.link/5d9b5460c7805
Silent letters to are the letters that appear in a word but are not pronounced. This seems a bit confusing for kids when they first learn silent letters but with a bit of practice and understanding, the concept would be easy to grasp.
Some letters are a part of a word, but they do not add to the sound of it. They are silent. These silent letters make up for different pronunciation of a word. However, silent words also follow a pattern. For example:
Consider the words:
• Ghost
• Honest
• Hour
In all these three words, ‘H’ remains silent, but did you see the pattern? Yes, ‘h’ before ‘o’ is silent. Similarly, in the words:
• Knot
• Knife
• Knee
The letter ‘k’ is silent. The pattern tells us that ‘k’ before ‘n’ is silent. Silent letter not only remain silent they can also change the pronunciation of a syllable, for example in words:
• Fin
• Fine
‘e’ is not pronounced in ‘fine’ but still, it changes the pronunciation of the whole world. So silent letters are not that silent, they have an effect on the pronunciation of words.
Now you know how to learn silent letters, practice with some more words.

Students then progress to learning print awareness skills such as to begin reading at the top of a page, and read to the bottom. Knowing to read words from left to right is print awareness too.
Kids Academy has a series of videos that teach these basic skills. Beginning with the most basic of concepts, the first video teaches children that every word that is heard can be written down. Children learning how to read for kindergarten level, see easy three-letter words demonstrating this premise. The video shows how the letters D-O-G make the word DOG. The learner hears the name of each letter and then the word. Students viewing the video can read along! Further, students learn the names of each uppercase letter of the alphabet in a fun video that writes each letter, and then a fun animation with a character or object with that letter sound moves across the screen.
With other videos in this series, students progressing from Kindergarten to learning how to read for Grade 1, view letters that make a word. The letters given in the example are not in the correct order and must be unscrambled to make the correct word. Students practice and learn to read the one syllable words given in the examples. Students that are beginning to learn to read with phonics benefit from this instruction using one syllable CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words.
In more videos, students learn that words in a sentence have a space between them. Students clearly see that without these spaces, the words are difficult to read. The videos instructs learners to begin reading from the top of a page and then from left to right.
Teachers in the school as well as the home classroom that need resources on learning to read for kids find these videos are a great addition to daily instruction. Students learn letter identification, read one syllable words, and print awareness concepts.

Lyrics:
Baa, baa, black sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir,
Three bags full.
One for the master,
One for the dame,
One for the little boy
Who lives down the lane.
Baa, baa, white sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir,
Three bags full.
One for the master,
One for the dame,
And one for the little boy
Who lives down the lane.
Baa, baa, brown sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir,
Three bags full.
One for the master,
One for the dame,
And one for the little boy
Who lives down the lane.

Sometimes in life, it is acceptable to add or subtract numbers that have been rounded up or down to make calculations easier. In these videos, the Kids Academy teacher explains rounding numbers to the nearest ten and rounding numbers to the nearest hundred.
A real-life example of when rounding numbers is used could be:
A student needs new clothes. Her parents take her shopping and tell her that she can spend $75 on any items she likes. She immediately sees a shirt that costs $19.98. She finds a pair of pants for $27.99 and some shoes for $14.95. Does she have enough money to buy all three items?
Rounding makes the calculations easier. When the numbers are rounded to the nearest 10, they become $20.00, $28.00 and $15.00. Now the numbers are much easier to add and she determines she has enough to buy them all.
The video explains the rounding numbers rules are simple. When you are rounding numbers to the nearest ten, you look to the number to the right in the ones place. If that number is five or higher, you will round up. If the number is four or lower, then you round down. Likewise, if you are rounding numbers to the nearest 100, then look to the number on the right in the tens place. If that number is five or higher, you will round up. If the number is four or lower, then you round down.
The video teacher recommends underlining the number that you are rounding and drawing an arrow to the number to the right that determines whether you round up or down. The video provides several examples of rounding numbers as well as scenarios that require rounding numbers in real-life.
Rounding numbers 3rd grade, is a skill that prepares students to use math in their everyday lives. Teachers find these videos are a great tool that can be used for teaching re-teaching or for enrichment.
