We Wish You a Merry Christmas!
Singing Christmas songs for kids is a holiday tradition enjoyed by many. First, jolly old Saint Nicholas hops from home to home dropping presents down chimneys. In one home the presents land under a festive Christmas tree. Then one by one animal characters enter the room and open and take a present from the tree. A mouse, bear, monkey and elephant visit the tree to claim a present. The video captures the magic of Christmas with the simple story and children young and old will enjoy the charming animation.

Christmas songs allow children to express themselves creatively during the holidays and provide the opportunity for vocabulary building. This song has vocabulary such as “figgy pudding” and “kin” that are not familiar to young children so teachers and parents can use the song to teach new words. Teachers who encourage music in their classrooms provide a more positive classroom environment for their students and the benefits of music to learning is widely known.

Welcome to the Kids Academy channel! Teach US Geography for kids with instructional videos from Kids Academy. These standards-based clips include practice identifying the 5 five regions of the United States and locating cities and states. Included are Informational videos that show children things to do and see when visiting Washington DC and National Parks too!

The US region's geography lesson shows students a colorful US map with each area clearly defined. Students then look at a state and choose its correct region. Extend the learning by choosing more states and finding the regions in which they are located.

Another engaging activity is finding cities and states within the US. In this activity clip, students learn that within each state, there are cities. To complete the task, children read a city name and then find the city's state. A picture clue that represents that state is provided. For example, a cowboy hat is the picture clue to find the state that has the city of Dallas. The picture clue for the city and state of New York is the Statue of Liberty. Children view images and videos from each state. After, a review activity checks students' knowledge of the topic.

Continue the learning fun with a trip to Washington DC. In this animated clip, two children travel to the US capital. They visit and share facts about famous landmarks and memorials. Students learn that the President resides and works in the White House and that the nation's leaders meet and work in the Capitol building. The video highlights fun places to see in Washington DC, such as the National Zoo and the numerous museums too.

This US Regions and Geography collection concludes with a video on National Parks. Facts and information about Yellowstone, The Grand Canyon, and Biscayne National Parks are featured.

Chess is a very diverse game, it’s not just made up of some simple left, right moves, and there are some special moves also. To make it easier for kids to learn how to play chess let me explain one of these special chess moves called the pawn promotion in simple words.

First off what does promotion simply mean? It’s a reward for you doing a good job. For example in school when you do in good your exams and you get good grades you get promoted to the next grade. Similarly in chess when you play a good move you get a reward.

Let’s do this chess lesson by an example from the video.

As the name suggests pawn promotion is a reward for the pawn only. The pawn will get this reward if it is able to march throughout the board, through the enemy’s territory and get to the other side of the board.

The reward for a pawn in this situation here is that when it reaches to the other side of the board successfully he now has a choice to turn itself to a stronger piece, either a knight, a bishop, a rook or a queen. The pawn cannot remain a pawn and it cannot turn to the king because there can only be one leader.

Now very rarely you will change into a rook or a bishop, mostly the pawn turns to a queen because the queen is the strongest of all pieces. However, if you change to a bishop, a knight or a rook it is called as under promotion. One thing to be noted here is that even if you already have a queen on your board does that mean that you cannot change your pawn to another queen? No that is not true, you can actually change the pawn to a second queen, and it won’t matter. That is why an additional queen is given with the chess set.

On changing the new queen will be placed at the exact square of where the pawn was. So that’s all you need to know about pawn promotion. Practice it on board and soon you would become the champion of pawn promotions.

If you are a chess lover there are high chances that you will make your kids play it too, so if that is going to happen how about you do it well? Don’t just let them play dumb, teach them to play smart. Maybe they become the next chess champions of the world, who knows.

So let’s jump to the most basic knowledge about chess that you can teach your kid as a beginner guide to chess. The difference between check and checkmate is a part of this basic knowledge. It is a very important lesson in chess to figure out if the king in check or checkmate.

Learn How to Read for Kids
Learning a language is a very easy task for kids. Their brain is hardwired to learn a language, therefore, they do not need to be taught how to speak. But reading does not come naturally. Kida has to learn how to read. Several necessary measures are taken and methodologies are applied. According to the new strategies developed about how to read for kids in 2018, this is what needs to be done.

1. Give the Child Phonemic Awareness
To teach kids how to read, it is important to first introduce them to Phonetics. They need to know that speech is made up of individual sounds. Learning strategies and educational videos with sounds should be used to give the kids phonemic awareness. However, there is a difference between speaking and writing. In order to learn how to read it is important for the kids to recognize the marks that represent the sounds of the language that they learned. These marks are actually the alphabet.

2. Give the Child Alphabetic Awareness
Simply memorizing the alphabet is not enough for reading. In order to develop reading, readiness kids need to learn the letters. It is a complex procedure to tell the kids it identify which sounds go with which alphabet. We have 44 sounds and 26 alphabets. To make this simpler try to use educational videos and games of phonics to help the kids to match the sounds with the letters. Get them phonics letter sets and sound writing boards to make this learning fun.

3. Give the Child Sound to Word Awareness (Blending)
Once they can identify the sounds and matching letters. It is time to teach the kids the blending of sounds to recognize the printed words. For example “Cat” is represented by three letters c –a-t and has three sounds. Teach the kids how these sounds blend together to make the word Cat.

Kids are inherently curious, so once they have the awareness of words the process gets easier. Now is the time to give them interesting books of short stories and read for kids. They will start to follow after you and will eventually develop fluency.
