Monsters | Awesome Compilation | Learn Math for Kids | Cartoons for Kids
SUBSCRIBE: http://bit.ly/2oEezdZ

The city of Monstropolis in the monster world is powered by energy from the screams of human children. At the Monsters, Inc. factory, skilled monsters employed as "scarers" venture into the human world to scare children and harvest their screams, through doors that activate portals to the children's bedroom closets. It is considered dangerous work, as human children are believed to be "toxic". Energy production is falling because children are becoming less easily scared, and company chairman Henry J. Waternoose is determined to find a solution. James P. "Sulley" Sullivan is the organization's top scarer, but his chief rival, chameleon-like monster Randall Boggs, is close behind.

One day, Sulley discovers that Randall has left a door activated on the scare floor, and a small girl has entered the factory. After several desperate failed attempts to put her back, Sulley conceals her and takes her out of the factory. He interrupts his best friend Mike Wazowski's date with his girlfriend Celia, and chaos erupts when the child is discovered. Sulley and Mike manage to escape with the child before the Child Detection Agency (CDA) quarantines the restaurant, and back at their home, discover that she is not actually toxic after all. Sulley grows attached to her and calls her "Boo", while Mike is just anxious to be rid of her.

When they smuggle her back into the factory in an attempt to send her home, Randall discovers her and tries to kidnap her, but mistakenly kidnaps Mike instead. He straps Mike to a large machine called "The Scream Extractor", which he intends to use to revolutionize the scaring industry and solve the monster world's energy problems by forcefully extracting screams from kidnapped human children, though not without harming them in the process. Before Randall can use the machine on Mike, Sulley intervenes and reports Randall to Waternoose. Waternoose, secretly in league with Randall, instead exiles Mike and Sulley to the human world in the Himalayas. The two are taken in by a Yeti, who suggests they travel to a nearby village to return to the monster world. Sulley prepares to leave, but Mike angrily refuses to go with him. Meanwhile, Randall is preparing to use the Scream Extractor on Boo, but Sulley arrives and saves her. Randall and Sulley fight, and after Mike returns and the two reconcile, they overpower Randall, take Boo and flee.

Randall pursues them to the giant door vault, and a wild chase ensues among the millions of doors as they move in and out of the storage vault on rails to the factory floor. Boo's laughter causes all the doors to activate, allowing the chase to pass in and out of the human world. Randall attempts to kill Sulley, but Boo overcomes her fear and attacks him. Sulley and Mike trap Randall in the human world, where two residents at a trailer park beat him with a shovel, mistaking him for an alligator. Sulley and Mike then trick Waternoose into revealing his plot with Randall, while Mike secretly records the entire conversation. The CDA then arrests Waternoose, and Sulley and Mike say goodbye to Boo and return her home before her door is shredded to prevent any more contact with her.

With the factory temporarily shut down, Sulley is named the new CEO of Monsters, Inc. Under his leadership, the energy crisis is solved by harvesting children's laughter instead of screams, as laughter has been found to be much more potent. Mike takes Sulley aside, revealing he has rebuilt Boo's door, and only needs one final piece, which Sulley took as a memento. Sulley enters and joyfully reunites with Boo.

Why are timed math drills bad for kids? And how do timed math drills promote math anxiety?

Let's explore the research of Stanford Professor Jo Boaler, the author of Mathematical Mindsets, concerning why timed math tests amplify math anxiety and turn students, especially girls, away from math. To reform math education, we need to shift the focus to a growth mindset for math and onto achieving deep mathematical understanding.

Jo Boaler: Stanford researcher, professor of math education and author of the acclaimed book, Mathematical Mindsets.

Math anxiety has now been recorded in students as young as five, and timed tests are a major cause of this debilitating, often lifelong condition.

Timed tests evoke such strong emotions that students often come to believe that being fast with math facts is the essence of mathematics.

This misguided emphasis on speed and memorization has resulted in high numbers of students dropping out of mathematics.

Brain research shows us that under the stress of time pressure, working memory can become blocked, leaving students unable to retrieve what they already know.

The blocking of the working memory and associated anxiety is particularly common among higher-achieving students and girls.

When schools make learning math an anxiety-provoking experience, we turn students away.

The best way to learn math facts is to through mathematical activities that focus understanding number relationships.

This authentic understanding is best achieved through taking the time to think deeply about number strategies. which takes time.

Yet, many people believe that mathematics is only about calculating -- and that the best mathematics thinkers are those who can calculate the fastest.

In truth, skilled mathematicians are often slow with math, because they take the time to think carefully and deeply about mathematics.

We need our students to become powerful thinkers
who can make connections, think logically, and solve complex problems.

To achieve this goal, we must shift the focus of math education away rapid calculation and towards deep mathematical thinking and understanding

This movement in education reform is gaining momentum and your input helps. Please join the conversation and share your thoughts in the comments.

Our Mission: MashUp Math is our creative solution to reviving students' passion and interest for learning mathematics. As young educators, we know that all students learn math differently and that a one-size-fits-all approach is simply ineffective. The idea that the ability to understand mathematics is reserved for a select few did not sit well with us.

In addition to sharing free teacher resources (which are teacher created resources) in the form of teacher worksheets, we share new YouTube math videos every week that help math teachers and students to better understand mathematics and the common core. Our lessons can be aligned with the common core standards for common core math and are immensely popular with flipped learning educators and anyone experimenting with flipped classroom learning.

As educators, we know what it takes to be a super math teacher and that we canโ€™t always do it alone. In addition to our cool math videos, we share articles, blogs, inspirational quotes, teacher math worksheets, and math worksheets.

Many of our users serve as a special education teacher and use our cool videos to support their special education students with special needs. Our free online math lessons are also high adaptable to your homeschool curriculum and should be added to your list of free homeschool resources.

How to square any numbers in your head - fast mental math trick here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEuyDHMG0jY

There is barely any calculation needed to mentally find the square a number that ends in five. How fast? The square of 45 is 1225; The square of 85 is 7225; the square of 115 is 12125; the square of 1095 is 1188125....as fast as I can type them I answer them!
The trick is this to faster squaring....
Say we have 65 squared. Get the number that is not 5 ( that is 6) and multiply it by the next number after it (7). Then just write 25 on the end.
So 6 x 7 = 42, our answer is 4225. Really. Simple 'eh?

In which John Green teaches you about the changes wrought by contact between the Old World and the New. John does this by exploring the totally awesome history book "The Columbian Exchange" by Alfred Crosby, Jr. After Columbus "discovered" the Americas, European conquerors, traders, and settlers brought all manner of changes to the formerly isolated continents. Disease and invasive plant and animal species remade the New World, usually in negative ways. While native people, plants, and animals were being displaced in the Americas, the rest of the world was benefitting from American imports, especially foods like maize, tomatoes, potatoes, pineapple, blueberries, sweet potatoes, and manioc. Was the Columbian Exchange a net positive? It's debatable. So debate.

In the 17th century, as the British colonies in the Americas were getting established in places like Jamestown, VA, the system of chattel slavery was also developing. Today, we'll learn about the role that slavery played in early American economy and how slavery became a legally accepted practice in the first place, and how it contributed to the colonyโ€™s early economic success. We'll look at the experiences of Anthony Johnson and John Punch to see how legal precedents that greatly influenced the development of slavery were set.
