Almost every company selling these products says the features are educationally effective, so EdReports went looking for the evidence behind those claims. Starting teaching can feel overwhelming — especially when there seem to be hundreds of EdTech tools, apps and AI platforms you’re expected to know.

But you don’t need 50 different tools to teach effectively.

In this video, I share the EdTech tools I would start with if I were a new teacher today. Rather than chasing every new app, we’ll build a simple, practical toolkit around the problems teachers actually need technology to solve.

We’ll explore:

An AI assistant for planning, drafting resources, vocabulary and retrieval questions
Canva for creating reusable classroom resources and templates
Your school’s learning platform for keeping resources and pupil work organised
Interactive assessment tools for identifying misconceptions and informing your next teaching steps
Digital whiteboards and presentation tools for clear modelling and explanations
Accessibility tools including text-to-speech, speech-to-text, captions and reading support
Trusted curriculum resource libraries so you spend less time searching and more time adapting quality materials

We’ll also look at SEND, safeguarding, pupil privacy and responsible AI use, because choosing technology isn’t simply about what a tool can do — it’s about whether it is appropriate for your pupils and genuinely improves teaching.

The key message

Start with the problem, not the product.

Choose one tool. Use it to solve one recurring problem. Build confidence with that workflow before adding something else.

A small toolkit you understand well is far more useful than dozens of forgotten accounts.
