It's Kids Academy! Kids love science experiments, so today we are going to do some and see the reaction between baking soda and vinegar. If you have more than one type of vinegar feel free to experiment to see which one creates the better reaction. I've chosen a couple of simple liquids you can find at home: tap water, lemon juice, coffee, lime juice, and, of course, vinegar. Stay tuned!

This geometry video tutorial provides a basic introduction into two column proofs with parallelograms. It explains the different ways of proving parallelograms. Here are five ways: 1. opposite sides must be parallel. 2. Opposite sides must be congruent. 3. opposite angles must be congruent. 4. 1 opposite side may be both parallel and congruent. 5. Looking at the prefix, tri-, you could probably assume that trigonometry ("trig" as it's sometimes called) has something to do with triangles. You would be right! The Washoe County school district in Reno, Nev., has been way ahead of most other districts in its approach to social-emotional learning, especially in measuring students' SEL skills, which are part of the district’s accountability system. Education Week, which first reported on Washoe’s SEL work in 2016, checked back in with the district this school year to learn how its work on social-emotional learning has been progressing. We visited high school classes that are pointedly about developing SEL skills such as coping with stress and the power of thought. Stephan Molder, an SEL teacher in Reno's Hug High School, says successful social-emotional learning starts with the adults in schools. He boils it down to this: "...It's all about building relationships with students. I never wreck the relationship, no matter what. I always try to save the relationship first.”

The engineers at Splash Engineering (the students) have been commissioned by Thirsty County to conduct a study of evaporation and transpiration in their region. During one week, students observe and measure (by weight) the ongoing evaporation of water in pans set up with different variables, and then assess what factors may affect evaporation. Variables include adding to the water an amount of soil and an amount of soil with growing plants.
