Hello friends! Welcome to a new Happy Learning video.
Today, we’re going to know why the stars, shine!
In summer, I love to watch the stars shine bright. They make me think and look back on many things…
Stars shine because they are gigantic burning hot gas spheres that release heat and light. They are so bright because there are atomic reactions inside them, that convert hydrogen into helium. Their temperature can reach 10.000 degrees centigrade. According to the colours they give off, astronomers know if they are hotter or cooler.
Our sun is a medium sized yellow star. Stars smaller than the sun are reddish and larger ones are blue.
Stars live for thousands of millions of years, but they always end up becoming extinguished.
When we look into the sky at night we can see hundreds and hundreds of stars. Some of them, either because they are very big or because they are closer to Earth, are very visible. Others, which are smaller or further away are tiny points that can hardly be seen.
At a glance from Earth, we can see about 2000 stars, but really, there are thousands and thousands of stars in the universe, but nobody knows exactly how many there are.
In the past, stars were very important for sailor’s orientation. Because of the Polar Star, the Ursa Major or Venus, sailors knew what directions to take and got to their destinations safe and sound. To see the stars better, they used devices such as the telescope.
The telescope is a gadget that works with light and is used to watch far away objects a lot clearer than by glance.
But… who was the inventor of the telescope?
The truth is we don’t know with certainty, but it was Galileo in 1609 who, using an invention by a Dutch man called Lippershey (Lipershy), built the first telescope that was used to look at the stars and because world famous.
Well, now we know why stars shine and the instrument so we can look at them. The truth is I love stars. What about you?

The Bicycle: Great inventions that changed history.
Hello friends! Welcome to a new HAppy Learning Video! Today, in our section great inventions of history, we’re going to get to know… the bicycle.
The bicycle is one of the most fun means of transport there is! Also, it is very ecological, and very healthy! Since when we ride a bicycle, we do physical exercise!
But… do you know who, and when the bicycle was invented? No? Well, let’s find out!
The truth is, that alike many other inventions, the bicycle was invented in various phases and it was various people who intervened in its evolution until reaching the bicycle we know today!
Here you can see the first bicycle in history! It was invented by Karl Drais in 1817 but, it doesn’t look a lot like contemporary bikes, it didn’t have pedals and you had to push it with feet on the ground.
In 1861, the Frenchman Ernest Michaux thought of putting pedals on the front wheel, but because it didn’t balance correctly, people fell off and his idea didn’t succeed. But it was useful so in 1873, James Starley, an English inventor, would manufacture a bicycle with the front wheel a lot bigger than the back one. Although the falls from so high up were dangerous, he made it easier to drive them, so in 1873, Thomas Steven commenced the first trip around the world. He took three years to finish it.
In 1885, John Kemp Starley, James Starley’s nephew invented a safe bicycle. Because it had breaks, and was a lot lower, falls were less frequent and less dangerous. Exactly, it was more secure… he had created a contemporary bicycle. From this moment on, the bicycle became famous throughout the whole world. And it started to be used for Cirque shows, to travel or just to do sports. But… the bicycle’s history hasn’t ended, there are still new bikes being invented, like mountain bikes, race bikes, electric or some which won’t move no matter how fast you pedal, like at the gym… There are a lot of curious bicycles, like all of these… It’s clear that the bicycle is an invention which runs smoothly! So everyone let’s ride a bike!

The Moon and the Earth
Hello friends, welcome to a new video from Happy Learning. Today we are going to learn about… the Moon.
The Moon is the only satellite that rotates around our planet and it takes 28 days to completely go around the Earth. But, do we now what a satellite is? A natural satellite is any kind of celestial body that rotates, or actually, orbits around a planet.
The Moon is never still, it moves and in two ways. It has a movement of rotation, which means it turns in its own axis, and a movement of translation, that is to say, it rotates around the Earth.
The duration of the movement of rotation and translation is 28 days. Because it takes the same amount to rotate on its own axis and to completely go around the Earth, the Moon always shows us the same face.
When we observe the Moon along a period of time it appears to change shape. These changes in appearance are called lunar phases and they repeat every 28 days. There are four: full Moon, first quarter, new Moon and last quarter. The Moon phases are produced by two reasons: the movement of the Moon around the Earth and because the Moon reflects light form the sun as a mirror.
New Moon
In this phase the Moon is passing between the Earth and the Sun. The illuminated face of the Moon is facing the opposite direction to Earth. The dark side ends up facing the Earth, and this is why we cannot see the Moon.
First Quarter
You can see it approximately one week after the new Moon. One half of the illuminated side faces the Earth. It is called the first quarter because, from the new Moon phase, the zone illuminated by the sun grows every time.
Full Moon
Approximately a week after the first quarter, we can see the whole Moon illuminated. The Earth is between the Moon and the sun and we can see it fully.
Last Quarter
The Moon presents its other half face illuminated. The name of the last quarter comes from the fact that the illuminated side becomes smaller and smaller each time
A very easy trick to now whether the Moon is in its first or last quarter is the following. If the Moon has the shape of a C, it is in its last quarter and if it has the shape of a D, it is in its first quarter.
So now you know, the Moon has 4 phases:
New Moon, first quarter, full Moon and last quarter.
Know we are going to learn a few facts about the Moon
Do you know the distance between the Moon and the Earth? Although it looks as though it is not very far away, the Moon is about 385,000 kilometers from the Earth.
Another very interesting fact is that a rocket takes three days to get to the Moon. Its incredible, isn’t it?
The first astronaut that stepped on the Moon was Neil Armstrong and this very important accomplishment occurred in the year 1969 aboard the Apollo 11 rocket.
The Moon is 4 times smaller than the Earth, but it is very important for the sustainability of life in our planet. The Moon generates tides; Do you now what that is? A tide is the rise and fall of the sea level. They occur every 6 hours approximately.
Well now you know a little bit more about the Moon, very interesting, right?

What are you waiting for? The ecosystem
Hello friends and welcome to a new Happy Learning video. Today we are going to learn about the ecosystems.
But…do you know what an ecosystem is? An ecosystem is a community of living things in a given area. For example, this river is an ecosystem and is made up of water, the river bed, the river banks and all the living creatures which live in it, such as this frog, these lily pads or this shy duck which hides as soon as it sees us.
An ecosystem can be very small, such as this puddle, or very big such as this enormous desert…
The ecosystems are made up of two components: the Abiotic and the Biotic components.
The Abiotic components include the non-living things like the ground, the climate, or the water and it determines which living things can survive in an ecosystem. For example a desert is a very dry place and so only animals and plants which can survive without much water can live there, like this slippery lizard or these humped back camels.
On our planet there are loads of ecosystems, and they are divided into aquatic and terrestrial. (And these can be either aquatic or terrestrial)
There are two types of aquatic ecosystems: freshwater and Marine.
The freshwater ones are those which have freshwater such as rivers or lakes where Lily pads, otters, or frogs live…Whoops, and here are our friendly ducks again…
The marine ecosystems are those found in the sea such as this beautiful colorful reef so full of life, fish, corals, octopuses and many more fascinating creatures.
When talking about the terrestrial ecosystems we imagine prairies… large plains in the savanna were zebras or antelope like to graze…jungles where trees are extremely high and are the homes for these monkeys called orangutans…or even mountain ecosystems where there tends to be plenty of snow.
Well now we know a bit more about ecosystems and as always, on behalf of Happy Learning we ask you to please look after them… they are so beautiful, we mustn’t destroy them. (We must preserve them)

When we listen to music while we are doing physical exercise, our resistance can increase up to 15%. From now on, if I have to compete in a race I’ll do it listening to music, let’s see if I can finally win!!
Music makes us dance… and dancing, makes our balance better, fortifies our muscles and it makes us more rhythmic, more coordinated, so… you know, everyone let’s listen to music and dance!
According to university studies, children who play a musical instrument have a better memory, more responsibility and consistency, better mathematical skills, greater expressiveness, and a better hearing ability… than the rest of the children. So choose your favourite instrument and… everybody… let’s play!
When we play babies music, even when they are not born yet, and they are still in their mothers’ womb, they become so excited, that their hearts race, and their brains are activated. But… Not any type of music is useful… The best is relaxing music like lullabies… or classical music!!
Music benefits our memory, it helps us remember! Many old people are able to recall very happy moments of their lives because of music. Actually there are songs which we always remember, they are the songs of our lives.
At Happy Learning we believe that music is essential for education and that’s why we ask all parents, and teachers to wake up the love for music in all children. I’m sure they’ll end up winning and dancing!

Hello friends! Welcome to a new Happy Learning video.
As you can see in the images, today we are going to talk about pyramids, mummies and
pharaohs. Today, we are going to travel to Ancient Egypt.
Egypt is a country that still exists today, situated in North Eastern Africa, but what we call Ancient Egypt is a civilisation that started more than 5.000 years ago and lasted for approximately three thousand years.
Its origins commences with Pharaoh Narmer, also known as the Scorpion King, who in 3200 B.C. funded this country at the Nile’s bank.
The river Nile is the largest river in Africa and was the most important existing thing for egyptians, since they depended on its water to survive.
Their whole civilisation and cities rose from the river's bank.
The Nile was so important because Egypt is a country surrounded by desert, and cultivations could only take place at its shores. But it wasn’t only used for agriculture, the river was also used to fish and hunt. And they also used it, as a great road to transport goods or large stone blocks, used for their constructions.
All of this is why the Nile was considered to be a God.
Actually, Ancient Egyptians had hundreds of Gods. Some had a human’s body and an animal’s head, like the Goddess Bastet, who had a lion’s head, or God Anubis, and his jackal head.
But the most important of all, was Ra, God of Sun, who had a falcon’s head.
The pharaohs were Ancient Egypt’s Kings. There where many pharaohs over 3000 years, but the most famous one was Tutankamon. Ancient Egyptians believed in life after death, and therefore they were buried with their belongings: furniture, vases, clothes and even food. They believed that this way these things could be used in their next life. As pharaohs had the greatest power, they wanted to have the best tombs. And they got them! These tremendous pyramids were built for pharaohs tombs. Inside them, there are many tunnels, chambres and secret passageways.
When they died, pharaohs and some noblemen’s bodies were mummified to preserve their bodies after death. These are the famous mummies.
Mummies were placed in a sarcophagus, luxurious coffins that were covered in beautiful drawings and hieroglyphics. Hieroglyphics were the mysterious Egyptian writings. Their meaning was a mystery for thousands of years, but thanks to archaeologists, we can translate them and partly understand what they want to say.
The truth is everything in Ancient Egypt’s circle fascinates me.
You already know, that discovering the future makes us understand the present, and improve the future.

Hello friends! Welcome to a new Happy Learning video.
Today, we’re going to learn about of the first and most important of human civilisations, today, we’re going to learn about… Mesopotamia!
The word Mesopotamia means “between two rivers” in greek! So this civilisation was named because it was situated between two rivers: Tigris and Euphrates.
Within these fertile lands, the first ever city-states were born, four thousand years before Christ! The most important cities were Ur, Urk and Lagash.
These city-states were independent from each other, like small different countries. They were surrounded by a great wall to protect themselves. The Ziggurat, a temple where priests lived, was built in the center of the city. Here, they controlled the trade, agriculture and taxes. The supreme priest had the city's political and religious power
Agricultural fields spread across these cities, which were traversed by irrigation channels that used the river’s water to water cultivations and animals would drink. Most of the city’s citizens were farmers and shepherds, but there were also artesans that sold their own products at the markets.
Because of their well-being, both cities began to grow, but so did the conflicts between them due to the control of land.
These battles arose military leaders that little by little turned into monarchs, Kings!
Between the years three thousand a one thousand B.C., Mesopotamian lands were conquered by various towns or cities. The first one was the Akkadian Empire, then the Babylonian Empire, followed by the Assyrian Empire and finally the Persian Empire.
So we’ve got to know part of Mesopotamia’s history, but do you know why it has been such an important civilisation for humanity?
Well there are many reasons! The first one is, because Mesopotamia was where, around 3500 B.C., the first written language was found. At first, it was composed by simple drawings called pictograms, look at these examples.
Over time, these drawings were simplified and started to transform into symbols, which is what we know today as cuneiform (cuniform) writing. As you can see, this writing was made with a wooden punch over clay boards.
Another great contribution mesopotamia made was its art. They created the arc and vault, that helped them construct magnificent temples and palaces. To decorate the walls and doors within these temples and palaces they used paintings like this one, where the King Ashurbanipal is hunting lions.
By the way, before we say goodbye, Do you know what country Mesopotamia is today?
Well it’s… Irak! you can see it here.
