Trigonometry is an easy way to work out the unknown sides and angles of a right angled triangle. The trick - know the side names - the opposite, hypotenuse, and adjacent, and know how and when to apply the trigonomic functions - sin, cos and tan. This is the only trick to getting it right every time!
In this lesson, students learn to label sides and angles in right triangles as well as when to use sine, cosine, and tangent. You will need a scientific calculator for the problems in this lesson - and I'll show you how to access one on your computer. The trick to getting these types of speed distance time calculations is to think of the times used as fractions, and then apply the time formula (time = distance/speed).

It is easy to mentally subtract numbers = even big numbers - by following a few simple ideas.
Subtract from left to right. Makes sense - that's the way we think of numbers so subtract in that order too!
Next we can choose our level of difficulty, and borrow as we go through the answer.

This video shows a step by step procedure to finding volume of a rectangular prism.
We use the formula volume = length x width x height.
Notice because we use 3 measurements when we work out the volume of a 3D shape we end with an answer in cubic units (units^3).
We then look out how to work out the volume of composite objects - that is the volume of objects containing more than one shape.

Dividing by multiples of 10 is simple to do.
First count the number of zeros in the number you are dividing by, then move the decimal place of the number being divided the same number of times.
