We think that one of the most fascinating creatures to ever roam the Earth was the dinosaur. You most likely have heard of dinosaurs, seen pictures of them on TV or the Internet, or may have seen their bones in a museum. Dinosaurs are an interesting group of animals that no longer exist, meaning they are extinct. Dinosaurs evolved, meaning they changed, over millions of years.

In this dinosaur for kids video we also talk about how the dinosaurs’ extinction took place about 66 million years ago and 75% of all life on Earth died. There are many theories or guesses as to what may have happened leading to the extinction. They include worldwide volcanic eruptions, changes in the Earth’s climate, or perhaps a meteorite from space smashing into the Earth.

Why do we celebrate Women's History Month? In this video, you and your kids will learn about the significance of women's history. For much of world history, only males wrote and published stories about the past. This was because women were not treated equally to men for much of U.S. and world history. For example, in colonial America, women could not own property or vote in elections.

Except for a few places, females did not go to school. If they were at private academies, women were not taught the same subjects as men. While men learned to read, write Latin, world history, and math, women were taught what was known as "domestic arts," or how to manage a household. It was thought that a woman didn't need education because she was supposed to work at home. Can you imagine that in modern times?

The reason we dedicate an entire month to women’s history is that women have worked tirelessly, without recognition, and frequently at significant risk, to build the country we know today. For example, you probably know the names of Abigail Adams and Harriet Tubman. But have you ever heard of Eleanor Dare? How about Mary Chilton?

In 1980, President Jimmy Carter proclaimed the week of March 8 National Women's History Week. One year later, Congress joined with the president by passing a resolution declaring the week of March 8 as the official start of National Women's History Week. Seven years later, Congress passed a law authorizing the president to proclaim March as Women's History Month, and it has been celebrated ever since.

What is camouflage? Why do animals need to use it? Well, in Animal Camouflage, your kids and students will learn the answers to these questions! First off, there are many different kinds of camouflage, and we will discuss four of the main kinds that apply to animals in this video. Did you know that there is actually more than one reason that animals use camouflage?

A lot of animals use camouflage to hide from predators. The colors of their skin or fur helps them blend into the environment around them. Some animals, though, use camouflage to hunt. For the same reason that camouflage helps some animals hide to avoid predators, other animals blend into their surroundings to catch their prey unaware! In addition to hiding and hunting, a few animals use their coloring to communicate. Take the chameleon, for example. Most people think chameleons use color changing to fool predators. But that's not actually true! Chameleons change colors to communicate to other chameleons! They change color to communicate danger, to attract a mate, or simply to signal a change of environment.

These animals are so cool! You and your kids will discover just how many different types of animals take advantage of this amazing characteristic. And maybe you just might stumble upon one of these incredible creatures!

Pilgrims for Kids will give you a brief history of the Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving.

It all happened about 400 years ago. There was a group of travelers who came to America in search of religious freedom. They wanted to worship God in their own way in England, but they were not permitted. Instead, they boarded ships and went on a journey. These people are referred to as the Pilgrims.

The Pilgrims left Europe for America on September 20, 1620, and
established a colony called Plymouth. A colony is an area set up by a group of people who have usually traveled from the same country. It is a place where they settle to live, work, and raise their families.

Although the Pilgrims were happy to have settled in America, they faced a difficult and cold winter. They were not prepared. They built a large house and some smaller homes, but for a period of time people still slept on the Mayflower. Many of the Pilgrims died during the winter and of the 102 people who came across the Atlantic Ocean only 47 were still alive.

There were Native Americans living in the same area as the Pilgrims. Native Americans are the people who were already living on the land before the Pilgrims arrived in what is now known as America. They established a peace treaty with the Pilgrims. The Native Americans also agreed to trade for animal furs.

Some of the Native Americans also chose to stay with the Pilgrims and taught them how to plant corn, hunt, fish, and how to survive the cold winter.

After the first harvest in 1621, the Pilgrims invited some of the Native Americans to join them for a feast. Sometimes this is referred to as the first Thanksgiving as the tradition continued after every harvest in the years that followed.

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States. He was born on February 12, 1809 in Kentucky. Lincoln educated himself using borrowed books. He never went to a formal school and at age 25 he got into politics and became an Illinois legislator. He began studying the law and worked as a lawyer, and later became a U.S. Congressman, but then lost trying to become a Senator. He argued against slavery, and fought hard his whole life to end that practice. In 1860 he became the President of the United States and during his term the United States broke out into a Civil War largely because of differing views about Slavery.

During the war Lincoln singed the Emancipation Proclamation that eventually lead to the 13th Amendment which ultimately helped abolish Slavery and freed millions of slaves. At the height of the Civil War he gave one of the most famous speeches in History...The Gettysburg Address. He was instrumental in the Civil War Victory and changed the path of history forever. In this video about Albert Einstein for Kids we learn about one of the most famous scientists in history. Albert Einstein contributed to many scientific areas but one of his most important contribution to the world of physics and science is the Theory of Relativity. The theory changed how scientists observed the world and led to many modern inventions, including the nuclear bomb and nuclear energy. The theory explains how energy is related to mass.

One equation from the theory that you may have heard of is "E = mc2". The c represents the speed of light and never changes and is the fastest speed possible in the universe. E = energy, M = mass. His theory explains how time and distance may change when the different speed of an object or the observer is considered.

Believe it or not...Albert Einstein, like many people, struggled with education early in his life, he failed many tests and wasn't very organized, but he did not give up. He worked hard, became interested in math and science, and went on to become one of the most brilliant people in history. We all have learned and can continue to learn from the example of Albert Einstein.

Rainforests for Kids explores the world of these dense, wet regions of the world. There are two kinds of rainforests—temperate and tropical. Despite covering less than 3% of the earth's surface, rainforests are home to more than half the world's animal species! They are essential to life on earth because they help maintain the fresh water supply and provide oxygen to the atmosphere. The world's climate depends on rainforests!

When you compare temperate and tropical rainforests, you will find a few differences. Tropical rainforests are closer to the equator and are thus a little warmer and have more rainfall. Temperate ones are found in cooler coastal areas. You can find a rainforest in every continent except for Antarctica. The largest rainforest in the world is the Amazon rainforest. Over 20% of the earth's oxygen is produced by the vegetation there!

There are four layers to a rainforest: emergent, canopy, understory, and forest floor. Different animals live in different layers. Small monkeys and snakes, for instance, live at the top. At the bottom, you would find leopards, elephants, and gorillas. The video describes some interesting facts about three cool animals in particular. Keep watching to learn more!

In our video Thanksgiving for Kids, you will learn about the history of our very first "Thanksgiving" and how the holiday as we know it today became official.

The story of the first Thanksgiving is quite different from the holiday we celebrate today. When you hear the word Thanksgiving the first thing you may think about is turkey, or maybe the Fall or football, or perhaps you look forward to a couple of days off from school. In the 1600s, the first Thanksgiving had nothing to do with turkey, football, or school. It did take place during the Fall, and there was a feast shared by many people.

Thanksgiving is an annual celebration and a national holiday which commemorates a harvest festival celebrated by the Pilgrims in 1621. In the United States, it is held on the fourth Thursday in November. It is often remembered by religious observances
and a traditional meal, which today includes turkey. The present Thanksgiving holiday did not become official until 1863.

Before that time, three different presidents beginning with Washington tried to make it a national holiday, but it was limited to state observances and celebrations. However, many people believed that Thanksgiving should become a national holiday. Sarah Josepha Hale, an editor of a popular women’s magazine campaigned to make it a national holiday again. Finally, in 1863 President Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving as a holiday to give thanks for “general blessings”.

Since that time America has celebrated Thanksgiving every year with a traditional meal, often with family and friends, and giving thanks for their blessings.

When you hear the name Galileo, what do you think about? Galileo Galilei is often associated with telescopes, the universe, and being imprisoned for his discoveries. In Galileo Galilei for Kids, you will learn a lot more about this amazing scientist and mathematician and his inventions and scientific discoveries.

Galileo was the oldest of six kids. Galileo studied medicine in college and later switched to mathematics. However, he ran out of money and had to drop out. This setback didn't stop him from continuing to study on his own time. He supported himself by teaching math and art to others.

Around the year 1609, Galileo learned about the telescope. Some people think he invented the tool, but that is not true. He was simply the first to use it (or use the one he built and improved) to study the stars. He discovered that Venus had phases, and he discovered four moons that revolve around Jupiter. These moons are now known as the Galilean Satellites in his honor.

Galileo also studied Copernicus's theory that the sun was the center of the universe, and even had evidence to support his theory. This led to his arrest and imprisonment by the Roman Catholic church. The church still taught that Earth was the center of the universe, which Galileo discovered wasn't the case. Despite being told not to teach Copernicus's ideas or beliefs anymore, Galileo continued to do so and was branded a heretic. He was sentenced to life in prison. The church officially apologized for arresting Galileo in 1992, which is 392 years after Galileo's death!

What do you know about dinosaurs? In Dinosaur Facts for Kids, you will learn cool facts about many of these ancient animals. They lived during the Mesozoic era millions of years ago, which is divided into three smaller periods: Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous. To this day, scientists still debate about the cause of their extinction. Was it because lots of volcanoes erupted at the same time? Or was it because a meteor crashed into Earth and caused a ton of damage?

Regardless, we can learn a lot about dinosaurs by studying their fossils. The first dinosaur bones ever found were found in China. The people originally thought they were the bones of giant dragons! The word dinosaur means “terrible lizard,” which works because most dinosaurs are classified as reptiles. Because of the work of paleontologists, we know that some dinosaurs walked on two legs while other walked on four. We also know that these terrible lizards varied greatly in size. Some were as small as chickens while others were bigger than a school bus!

The types of food that dinosaurs ate varied as well. Dinosaurs were either herbivores, carnivores, or omnivores, just like the animals of today. There are also some dinosaurs that are considered the ancient ancestors of birds!

Have you ever visited a farm? Or perhaps you live on a farm! Farm Animals for Kids explores facts about some of the animals that live on farms and what they do. You might learn some fun facts along the way that you didn't know before! For instance, did you know

So what is a farm, exactly? A farm is an area of land used to grow crops and raise animals to produce food. The animals that live here are different from your average house pet. This is because farm animals usually have important jobs to do to keep the farm running. For instance, many farms have horses that help farmers prepare their crops.

One farm animal you're probably very familiar with is the cow. Cows are large and eat about 25 pounds of food per day. That's six to eight times as much as the average adult human! Most dairy farms have more than a thousand cows. These animals produce milk, that farmers can then sell to dairies that produce other dairy products like ice cream and cheese.

Chickens are another common farm animal. Some chickens can produce up to 300 eggs a year! Believe it or not, chickens didn't always live in America. But now there are more chickens in the U.S. than there are people! Another animal on the farm is the sheep. Farmers can sheer the sheep's wool once a year that they can then sell to companies that make clothing. Other farm animals include pigs, ducks, donkeys, and rabbits.

Can you name five natural disasters? How about ten? Twenty? Natural Disasters for Kids discusses quite a few of these crazy storms. It specifically discusses ten of the most common and what causes them to occur. In addition, you'll learn a few things you can do to get ready for a natural disaster in your area.

The most common type of natural disaster in the U.S. is flooding. Nearly 90% of all disasters actually involve flooding in some way. Floods can result from tropical storms, hurricanes, extreme rains, or even thawing snow. On the opposite end of the spectrum is a drought. When an area experiences a drought, it means that there is intense heat and an extreme lack of precipitation. Droughts can kill plants and reduce freshwater supply.

Another common natural disaster is the tsunami. Tsunamis are rare in the United States. These large ocean waves that form after an earthquake happens end up flooding coastal land. Hurricanes similarly produce excessive rainfall and often a lot of flooding. Wind speeds during a hurricane can reach up to 150 miles an hour! Still, the worst wind storm would be a tornado, with speeds up to 300 miles per hour.

Luckily, there are things we can do to help get ready for these storms. These are the three Ps: plan, prepare, and practice. It always helps to have a plan that outlines what you should do in case a natural disaster occurs. Then it's important to prepare by gathering necessary supplies. And like practicing for a fire drill at school, it's a good idea to practice the plan you made and ensure it works.
