In which John Green teaches you about the massive immigration to the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Immigrants flocked to the US from all over the world in this time period. Millions of Europeans moved to the US where they drove the growth of cities and manned the rapid industrialization that was taking place. In the western US many, many Chinese immigrants arrived to work on the railroad and in mines. As is often the case in the United States, the people who already lived in the US reacted kind of badly to this flood of immigrants. Some legislators tried to stem the flow of new arrivals, with mixed success. Grover Cleveland vetoed a general ban on immigration, but the leadership at the time did manage to get together to pass an anti-Chinese immigration law. Immigrants did win some important Supreme Court decisions upholding their rights, but in many ways, immigrants were treated as second-class citizens. At the same time, the country was rapidly urbanizing. Cities were growing rapidly and industrial technology was developing new wonders all the time. John will cover all this upheaval and change, and hearken back to a time when racial profiling did in fact boil down to analyzing the side of someone's face.

In which John Green teaches you about globalization, a subject so epic, so, um, global, it requires two videos. In this video, John follows the surprisingly complex path of a t-shirt as it crisscrosses the world before coming to rest on your doorstep, and eventually in your dresser. The story of the t-shirt and its manufacture in far-flung places like China, Guatemala, and India is a microcosm of what's going on in the global economy. Globalization is a bit of a mixed bag, and there have definitely been winners and losers along the way. In this episode, John will talk about some of the benefits that have come along with it. Next week, he'll get into some of the less-positive side effects of globalization.

The liberal arts in particular and liberal education in general are the surest, most time-tested way to direct students toward a life that is truly free. The liberal arts develop foundational skills that free an individual to investigate the order in things, especially in human speech and in nature, while liberal education embodies the free pursuit and acquisition of more universal knowledge that involves historical, philosophical, and theological inquiries, which are exemplified in the great books.

Hillsdale Collegeย is an independent institution of higher learning founded in 1844 by men and women โ€œgrateful to God for the inestimable blessingsโ€ resulting from civil and religious liberty and โ€œbelieving that the diffusion of learning is essential to the perpetuity of these blessings.โ€ It pursues the stated object of the founders: โ€œto furnish all persons who wish, irrespective of nation, color, or sex, a literary, scientific, [and] theological educationโ€ outstanding among American colleges โ€œand to combine with this such moral and social instruction as will best develop the minds and improve the hearts of its pupils.โ€ As a nonsectarian Christian institution, Hillsdale College maintains โ€œby precept and exampleโ€ the immemorial teachings and practices of the Christian faith.

The College also considers itself a trustee of our Western philosophical and theological inheritance tracing to Athens and Jerusalem, a heritage finding its clearest expression in the American experiment of self-government under law.

By training the young in the liberal arts, Hillsdale College prepares students to become leaders worthy of that legacy. By encouraging the scholarship of its faculty, it contributes to the preservation of that legacy for future generations. By publicly defending that legacy, it enlists the aid of other friends of free civilization and thus secures the conditions of its own survival and independence.

Thousands of parents and educators are turning to the kidsโ€™ learning app that makes real learning truly fun. Try Kids Academy with
3-day FREE TRIAL! https://bit.ly/2GuGyL2

It's Kids Academy and welcome back to our channel! Social studies for kids is an essential subject in their initial classes. The three very important lessons of social studies are recycling, civil rights and the right to vote. Letโ€™s describe these concepts in simpler words for kids.

Recycling simply means converting waste material into something new that can be used effectively. There are many materials that are being recycled today including plastic bags, tin cans, bottles, thrown away paper, juice cartons, and many more. Recycling is important because it saves the earth from pollution and is an efficient use of energy.

Civil rights are the rights that are observed to protect the freedom of common people from the government, private individuals and social organizations. One of the very important rights given by civil rights is the right to vote.

Every person in a country, satisfying the legal requirements of nationality, has the right to vote and elect the political public representatives, mostly the president. Every person 18 years of age or older has the right to vote.
It is necessary for a kid to know their rights in a state, it enables them to have a better understanding of the law and defending themselves in times of need.
