Title: Learn to subtract 1-digit numbers from 2-digit numbers Pt. 2.
You already know how to subtract when you have to take a ten.
In this lesson, you'll learn how to use that to subtract with numbers that have both tens and ones.
Here's an example. 43 minus 7.
We start with the ones place.
We can't subtract 7 from 3, so we have to take a ten from 40 to make ten ones.
We cross out the 4 in 40 and we enter a 3 here to show we have 3 tens left.
Now we put a 1 here to show that we have 13 ones.
So now we have 13 minus 7.
13 minus 7 is 6, so we put a 6 in the ones place of the answer.
There's nothing to subtract in the tens place, so we bring down the 3 for the 3 tens we have left.
That gives us 36.
So 43 minus 7 is 36.
Another example. 65 minus 8.
We start with the ones place.
We can't subtract 8 from 5, so we have to take a ten from 60 to make ten ones.
We cross out the 6 in 60 and we enter a 5 here to show that we have 5 tens left.
And we enter a 1 here to show we have 15 ones.
Now we subtract 8 from 15.
15 minus 8 is 7.
There's nothing to subtract in the tens place, so we bring down the 5 for the 5 tens we have left.
That gives us 57.
So 65 minus 8 is 57.
Last example. 37 minus 8.
We can't subtract 8 from 7, so we have to take a ten from 30 to make 10 ones.
We cross out the 3 in 30 and we enter a 2 here to show that we have 2 tens left.
And we enter a 1 here to show we have 17 ones.
Now we subtract 8 from 17.
17 minus 8 is 9.
There's nothing to subtract in the tens place, so we bring down the 2 for the 2 tens we have left.
That gives us 29.
So 37 minus 8 is 29.
In the rest of this lesson, you'll work problems like these. You can use these boxes if you want, but you don’t have to.

How can you encourage students to actually “do” history rather than just memorize facts and dates? How have changes in technology changed the process of historical inquiry? How can present day forms of communication connect history experts and their processes to your classroom?
In “Doing History” Digitally, “Doing history” is a social studies teaching method that asks students not only to think about history, but to replicate the conditions and means under which histories are made. This class examines interactive tech tools that will aid social science teachers in “doing history” and understanding the processes that make history happen.

Legal highs are set to be outlawed by the British government in response to a growing number of news reports about students overdosing on the synthetic drugs after using them recreationally. On the eve of the ban, VICE travelled to Manchester to meet some more vulnerable users who have become addicted to these over-the-counter substances and discovered that solving the problem won't be as simple as making legal highs illegal.

CNBC Marathon explores if why the education system in the U.S. is struggling by taking a hard look at the Common Core, teacher’s salaries and sex education.
First implemented in 2009, Common Core was an ambitious initiative to revolutionize the American education system. National leaders from Bill Gates to President Obama supported the idea and it cost an estimated $15.8 billion to implement. Years later, research showed the new curriculum had minimal impact on student performance. So why did Common Core fail? Can a common curriculum be successful for all students?
At the same time, teachers earn nearly 20% less than other professionals with similar education and experience, according to the Economic Policy Institute. In many states, their wages are below the living wage, forcing teachers to seek secondary jobs to supplement their income or leave the profession all together. So why are teachers paid so little and how can the U.S. fix that?
And the majority of U.S. students report they've had sex before graduation, which means the type of sex education they receive can be a big deal, for themselves personally and for the economy. The federal government doesn't have any official regulations for what schools must include in sex education curriculum, which has lead to inconsistent lessons across the country. Watch the video above to learn why sex education is so crucial for the economy and what happens when some students are left behind.

Finland has an economy and a population about the fifth the size of Australia's. But its schools consistently outperform ours and most others across the developed world.
Children in Finland don't begin school until the age of seven and they're only in classrooms half the time of their Australian counterparts.
